What are walk in baths?
Walk in baths have been specifically developed to assist those who have issues with entering and exiting a traditional bath due to the high level of the bath sides. A walk in bath solves this issue by allowing the user to simple open a door located either on the side or end of the bath and walk into the bath, removing the need to step over the bath side. Many specialist walk in baths have inbuilt seating for the user. Such baths come in many shapes and sizes to fit most bathrooms and the users requirements.
Once the user is seated in the bath the bath can be filled. Once finished the water can be drained and the user opens the door to exit. The filling and draining of the bath is one of the key differences between a walk in and traditional bath. With a traditional bath, it can be filled before entering, and drained after entering. A walk in bath has to be filled and drained whilst the user is in the bath. Thus quick fill capability and drain down time is important to ensure the user is not sitting in the bath for prolonged periods where they could become cold.
As with traditional baths, a shower fitting can also be used. In fact some baths can be used as a shower cubical as well as bath, with the addition of shower curtain or screen.
Such baths offer an ideal solution for those with mobility or mild disability issues, and will enable users to regain their independence in their own home. If users suffers from more serious mobility or disability issues then an easy access shower (wheelchair access) or a wet room may be a better solution.
